about
* All proceedings from this track will be donated towards Carnyx & Co. - a charitable company which provides a unique interface between musical archaeology and the world of contemporary performance and recording, and which produces concert programs and projects that seek to level the playing field between able bodied and disabled musicians. *
The song’s lyrics are rich in imagery reflecting on death portrayed as natural part of the changing of the seasons. The poetry draws from the Scottish landscape and Celtic year symbolisms. The song begins and ends with the sound of the Carnyx - an ancient Celtic war trumpet, as reconstructed by an internationally acclaimed trombonist John Kenny. The Carnyx within the song provides a bridge between the realm of the ancient sound and its continuous expression and meaning it gives to contemporary music. The sample of Carnyx originates from one of John Kenny’s performances at the British Museum.
Session musician Kent Murray recorded drums in the Highlands which adds to the otherworldly meaning to the song. Kirsten Forsyth, who plays fiddle on the track, has tapped into her childhood traditions to create an ominous texture with the string section background.

lyrics
I’ll lure you in my lovie dear,
Wi’ silence o’ the pastures green,
Follow me, widdershins.
Lightly, come awa’ wi’ me.
Highland Hart in gloaming stark,
Drookit is yer lowping heart,
Barefoot in the barren land,
Greetin’, come awa’ wi’ me.
Hazel wood and island bree,
Holly tree, close yer e’e.
Weary heid is needing sleep.
Thunder!.. Come awa’ wi’ me.
Cairn o’stones and rattlin’ bones,
Ravens twa, Cailleach, crone.
Follow me, widdershins,
Sacred, come awa’ wi’ me.
